Ministerial nominee, Bosun Tijani was tackled by a member of the senate over old tweets against the President.
The Ogun State Entrepreneur before his nomination as Minister designate had once criticized the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu before his inauguration.
However, when Tijani appeared before the red chambers today, haven read his profile to the senators, a Senator called the attention of the red chambers to a controversial tweet by Tijani hinting that he didn’t appreciate the Nigerian passport.
The Senator said:
On the 21st of July 2019, Dr Bosun tweeted against Nigeria that he does not appreciate the Nigerian passport and Nigeria as a nation,” the Oyo Senator said after 46-year-old Tijani, an Information Technology expert, read his profile to the lawmakers.
Similarly, Senate Majority Leader representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Opeyemi Bamidele, described Tijani as an “EndSARS protester”.
Accusing him of joining other Nigerian youths to protest against the police and the government at the time.
Responding to the questions, Ministerial the nominee tendered an open apology to the lawmakers over past tweets, adding that he tweeted in anger.
Also, Adamawa Senator, Ishaku Abbo also defended Tijani, saying the fellow only tweeted out of love for Nigeria. Senator God’swill Akpabio also defended the nominee.
In his words:
We are all fathers and we cannot throw the baby away with the bath water…On behalf of the Senate, I want to accept your apology,” Akpabio said and asked the nominee to take a bow.
Tijani also emphasized on his competence in his response, saying:
I am a patriotic Nigerian. I believe so much in this country and I won’t do anything to undermine the integrity of this country.
“The tweets online don’t represent me at all. As a young man born and bred by Yoruba parents, tender my sincere apology. I am profusely sorry,” he pleaded.
“My commitment to His Excellency, Mr President and to you Distinguished Senators, and indeed all Nigerians, is to give my best with the same passion and conviction that I have demonstrated all my life to achieve the President’s economic and prosperity agenda,” he added.
