Canadian rapper and singer Tory Lanes has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Pete popularly known as Meg the Stallion.
In December 2022, the performer was found guilty of three gun-related crimes, including assault with a semiautomatic handgun, transportation of a loaded, unlicensed firearm, and careless discharge of a firearm.
He was then kept in the county jail. He was facing a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in jail after being found guilty of shooting Grammy winner and fellow performer Megan Thee Stallion in the foot following an argument after they left Kylie Jenner’s party in 2020. Meg required surgery to have gunshot pieces removed from her foot as a result of the incident.
The initial recommendation from the prosecution in the case was for a 13-year prison term because they felt “he lacked remorse and was clearly incapable of accepting any responsibility for his own actions.”
In contrast, Lanez’s legal team asked for probation as well as a residential drug treatment center to assist him overcome his alcoholism.
The California state judge summarized 76 letters of support for Mr. Lanez that were submitted to the court, including one from fellow rapper Iggy Azalea, during the hearing.
“This is a statement for all survivors that their lives matter and that there is zero tolerance for the torture that accompanies violence”, said Megan Thee Stallion, who chose not to attend the sentence because she claimed she could not be in the same room with Lanez.
