Nigerian singer Wizkid has now surpassed 6 billion streams as a lead artist thus extending his African record on the music streaming platform.
One of the artists driving the global spread of Afrobeats is Wizkid, whose music has earned him numerous international accolades and sold-out venues.
Since his smash hit single “Ojuelegba” attracted notice on a global scale in 2015, Wizkid has been at the forefront of exporting African music.
Drake included him on the mega-hit single “One Dance” in 2016, which became the first song to surpass one billion Spotify streams and catapulted Wizkid to fame throughout the world.
Since his appearance on Drake’s “One Dance,” Wizkid has established himself as one of the most popular musicians worldwide, with his songs reaching listeners throughout the globe.
2020 saw the release of his fourth album, “Made In Lagos,” which featured the smash song “Essence” with Tems and a remix featuring Justin Bieber that peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100.
‘Made In Lagos’ is the first Nigerian album to receive an RIAA Gold certification, while ‘Essence’ has received three Platinum certifications.
He is currently the most streamed Afrobeats artist on Spotify thanks to his extensive list of international collaborations with superstars like Drake, Major Lazer, and Beyonce.
