Edo State Government has dismantled the media crew attached to the office of the deputy governor of the state.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, who disclosed that henceforth, the deputy Governor is directed to request for media agents from the Ministry if he is ever in need of media coverage.

The statement read, “Edo State Government has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, with a directive to the Deputy Governor to henceforth request the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for media coverage of activities of his office.
“This directive followed the ugly and unfortunate incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the Deputy Governor, attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated.
This act was contrary to the accredited protocol that had been established for the media coverage of the event.
“The orchestrated and stage-managed walkout and disruption is highly regrettable,” Nehikhare added.
This further illuminates the indication that Obaseki be his deputy, Shaibu are in a deep political rift.
Recall that the deputy Governor’s media team members were prevented from entering the colloquium organized by the state government even after he insisted.
Trouble started when deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu starters nursing an ambition to succeed Godwin Obaseki in 2024.
While both Obaseki and Oshiomole share a long term relationship with Philip, both parties seem to be against his bid at this time.
Obaseki has on several occasions expressed his disappointment at the political choices of Philip who he described as being desperate.
