Chicago State University (CSU) has released the school documents of President Bola Tinubu to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku had sought access to Tinubu’s academic records as part of his legal challenge to the results of the 2023 presidential election.
A U.S. court had ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku, and the university has complied with the court order by providing the documents.
This development comes after a legal battle over Tinubu’s academic qualifications in the context of the election.
And the school has obeyed the court order, releasing the documents on Monday night.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had sought access to Tinubu’s academic records from CSU.
These documents include Tinubu’s record of admission, acceptance at CSU, dates of attendance, as well as degrees, awards, and honours obtained from the university.
A magistrate had initially ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku within a specific timeframe.
Tinubu’s lawyers approached a U.S. high court, seeking a review and a delay of the magistrate’s order. They provided two reasons for this challenge: first, they argued that the academic records would not be useful in Nigerian courts, and second, they claimed that Atiku’s request was unduly intrusive.
Atiku’s legal team filed a response, urging the court to overrule Tinubu’s request entirely. This response was filed in Chicago, Illinois.
