The Court of Appeal has started the hearing on an appeal filed by Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf.
The appeal follows the decision of the governorship election tribunal verdict in the state which sacked Yusuf.
The tribunal’s decision came on the heels of the discovery that 165,663 votes were not stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission and as such were declared invalid.
After the March 18 elections, INEC had declared Yusuf winner of the elections haven pulled 1,019,602 votes against his opponent, Nasiru Gawuna, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 890,705 votes.
However, given the new decision of the tribunal, his closest rival, former deputy governor of the state, Nasir Yusuf Gawuno was affirmed winner of the election after deductions.
The court had compelled INEC to retrieved the certificate of return from Yusuf and issue a new one to Gawuno of the All Progressives Congress.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, and it’s and Yusuf had filed an appeal to upturn the verdict of the tribunal.
Yusuf and NNPP also contracted famous Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wole Olaonipekun, as their counsel.
